Steve Boucouvalas is the former Managing Director, Head of FX and PM for HSBC Bank Canada. Prior to this role, Steve was the First Vice President and Deputy Treasurer at the Republic National Bank of New York (Canada). Steve brings 25 years’ expertise in banking, having held senior leadership roles in treasury and capital markets at large international financial institutions. His experience spans liquidity and balance sheet management, trading and sales, strategy, budgeting, enterprise risk management, mergers and acquisitions and compensation.
Steve possesses a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance & Accounting and has ICD.D and ACCUD designations.
In addition to his executive career in financial services, Steve is a seasoned corporate director serving on the FirstOntario Credit Union Board of Directors as Board Chair as well as his role as Vice Chair of the Board of the Oakville Hospital Volunteer Association, among other board and committee roles that Steve has held.
In addition, Steve serves on the Credit Union Stakeholder Advisory Committee for the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), where he engages with regulators and sector stakeholders on policy, supervision, and system-level issues affecting credit unions. This role has further strengthened Steve’s understanding of regulatory expectations, prudential oversight, and effective collaboration in support of financial stability.
Steve is passionate of the credit union movement has a multi-faceted understanding of the credit union ecosystem because of his role on the FirstOntario Credit Union board and his involvement with FSRA. This demonstrates his deep understanding of corporate governance, strategic challenges and opportunities facing credit unions and regulatory complexities for credit unions.
